New book 'Energy Demand Challenges in Europe: Implication for policy, planning and practice'

A new book 'Energy Demand Challenges in Europe: Implication for policy, planning and practice', co-edited by Dr Frances Fahy and Dr Gary Goggins from the National University of Ireland (NUI), Galway, was published by Palgrave MacMillan. It is an open access publication and can be freely downloaded from Springer.

The book examines the role of citizens in sustainable energy transitions across Europe, with cases from Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. The chapters provide short and readable summaries of national trends, socio-material characteristics, and policy responses to contemporary energy issues affecting householders. The book explores energy problem framing, policy approaches and practical responses to the challenge of securing clean, affordable and sustainable energy for all citizens, focusing on households as the main unit of analysis.

Chapter 11 (Sustainable Energy Consumption and Energy Poverty: Challenges and Trends in Bulgaria) was written by two ARC Fund’s experts – Marko Hajdinjak and Desislava Asenova. This book represents an important milestone in ARC Fund’s work on the issues of responsible energy consumption and energy consciousness in Bulgaria conducted over the past few years.

The book is a key output of the H2020 ENERGISE project (GA number 727642).
