Bulgarian Safer Internet Node

The Program Safer Internet 2009-2013 of the EC builds upon the successful Safer Internet plus program 2005-2008 and the Safer Internet Action Plan 1999-2004. It co-funds projects aiming at increasing public awareness; providing the public with a network of hotlines for reporting illegal and harmful content and conduct, in particular on child sexual abuse material and cyber bullying. It fosters self-regulatory initiatives by involving children in creating a safer online environment. Safer Internet establishes a knowledge base on new trends in the use of online technologies and their consequences for children's lives.
Since August 1st, 2005, the non-governmental Applied Research and Communications Fund (ARC Fund), which works jointly with CSD on a number of issues, has officially started a project to establish a Bulgarian hotline under the EU Safer Internet Program.
The Hotline –http://web112.net- has been operational since May 2006, and is under the supervision of the Public Council on Safer Internet Use in Bulgaria, which provides a coordination platform for the various stakeholders involved in limiting the distribution of harmful and illegal content and protecting the rights of users, particularly those of children.
As of June 2008 ARC Fund coordinates the Bulgarian Safer Internet Combined Node comprising the Hotline against illegal and harmful content in Internet and the national Awareness node.
