Human Trafficking, Border Security and Related Corruption in the EU

Full text (Adobe PDF, 639 KB)

The paper Human Trafficking, Border Security and Related Corruption in the EU (ed. Giya, G., DCAF Brussels office, 2013), by Atanas Rusev, Research Fellow at the Center for Study of Democracy in Bulgaria, investigates the much under-researched aspect of corruption and human trafficking. In order to explain how organized crime uses corruption of border guards in order to ensure their compliance and non-interference in the human trafficking channels, Rusev analyses in more detail three key contexts – the broader context of human trafficking in the EU, the problems with corruption in border control authorities and the link between corruption and organized crime in relation to human trafficking.
