| Project Logo Competition of "ARISA: Assessing the Risk of Isolation of Suspects and Accused"

Background
Despite the obligation of criminal justice authorities to strictly observe the presumption of innocence, suspects and accused are always subject to certain restrictions and consequences during the criminal proceedings, most of which affect their personal and social sphere. All of these restrictions have their legitimate purposes: some are aimed to facilitate the investigation (seizure of objects to serve as evidence), some prevent absconding or re-offending (remand measures), some protect the victims (restraining order). Information about the criminal proceedings is also often publicly released or shared with the media, which further affects the lives of suspects and accused. These measures and restrictions can have certain negative consequences for suspects and accused: loss of job or income, additional expenses, loss of social benefits, worsened relations with family and community, etc. These consequences need to be taken into account and properly assessed by the criminal justice authorities together with the evaluation of other factors like the risk of absconding or re-offending.
Against this background, the project ARISA is aimed to enhance the observance of the presumption of innocence in criminal proceedings by identifying the factors affecting the social status of suspects and accused, analysing and describing their impact, and providing judicial and law enforcement authorities with a methodology for assessing the risk of de-socialisation of suspects and accused and practical guidelines on how to address this risk.
Objective of the competition
The objective of this competition is to create a logo for the project. The logo will serve as the main component of the visual identity of the project and will appear on all project deliverables, including website, electronic newsletters and printed publications.
Format of the competition
The logo design competition will accept entries only one of which will be selected for further use. Entries will be evaluated and ranked by an evaluation committee consisting of members of the project consortium. The winning entry’s author will be invited to sign a contract for transferring the exclusive rights for using the logo to the project consortium. Before signing the contract, the author of the winning entry will be required to sign a declaration certifying the authenticity and authorship of the logo.
Prizes
The winning entry’s author will be awarded a prize of 300 Euro. The authors of the logos ranked at second and third place will receive a prize of 100 Euro each.
How to participate
The competition is open to:
• Individuals, who are nationals of or residing in a Member State of the EU or a Member State of the European Economic Area (EEA) and who are at least 18 years old;
• Legal entities, which are established or registered in a Member State of the EU or a Member State of the European Economic Area (EEA).
Candidates must not be in contractual relationship with any of the project consortium members at the time of submitting the entry.
Each entry must meet the following criteria:
• The logo must feature the project acronym ARISA in English. The inclusion of the full name of the project ‘Assessing the Risk of Isolation of Suspects and Accused’ is optional and not mandatory.
• The colours of the logo are not subject to any mandatory requirements. However, candidates must be aware that both the colour version and greyscale version of the logo will be considered during the evaluation process.
• Candidates can submit the same logo in different colours. Such submissions will be considered as one entry.
• Entries must be submitted electronically and the files must be in vector PDF format. Candidates are encouraged to submit their entries by email. In this case, each file must not be bigger than 10 MB and the total size of the message must not exceed 25 MB. Files exceeding this size can be sent through a file sharing platform, but the organiser cannot be held responsible for any failure of accessing such entries.
• Each candidate can submit up to 5 (five) entries. However, a single candidate cannot receive more than one of the prizes to awarded.
Entries must be sent in colour and greyscale version to the following e-mail: law@online.bg. Each candidate must include in the message their full name, address, telephone number and e-mail for further correspondence (if different from the one used for submitting the entry).
Deadlines
The deadline for submissions is 29 September 2017, 18:00 CET. Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted. Receipt confirmation will be sent to each candidate not later than 24 hours after the entry is received. Candidates, who have not received a confirmation within 24 hours are encouraged to contact the organisers.
The deadline for the evaluation of entries is 13 October 2017. Each candidate will be informed about the outcome of the competition by email not later than 20 October 2017.
