During the last years the Irish economy is developing very fast. In the period 1993-2001 the country has experienced an average annual GDP growth rate of 8,3% and 4,7% growth in employment. The national innovation system and, based on it, the policies for science and technological development have been among the main factors contributing to the country's economic growth over the past decade.
