International Conference discusses "Technology Foresight for EU Enlargement"
On October 3, 2002 in Sofia, ARC Fund organized an international conference on Technology Foresight for EU Enlargement. This conference marked the launch of a research project – “Technology and Innovation Foresight for Bulgaria and Romania” (ForeTech project) which ARC Fund implements with support from the EU STRATA Programme.

The objective of the conference was to raise awareness on foresight and its benefits among the local research, business and policy communities, promote the concept of a full-range national foresight program among policy-makers, and provide a platform for networking among foresight practitioners from the EU member states and candidate countries.

The event brought together 92 participants: representatives of government agencies, the European Commission, the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies in Seville (Spain), researchers, businesses and non-government organizations from Bulgaria, as well as foresight practitioners from Europe: the UK, Greece, Malta, Estonia, Belgium, Ireland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Germany. The conference agenda highlighted the experience of the EU and Central European countries in policy making for technology development and innovation, as well as the work of the STRATA Programme under DG Research of the European Commission.
