Information Day on Regional Innovation Strategies
On December 5, 2003 ARC Fund organized an Information Day on the forthcoming (in spring 2004) call for proposal for implementation of Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) projects. The call is part of the European Union's 6th Framework Program. The conference, which took place at the Boyana government compound in Sofia, was a joint event supported by DG Enterprises of the European Commission and the Partner Network (UK) .

Participants included over 130 representatives of regional administrations, municipalities, government agencies, universities, research institutes, NGOs. Keynote speakers were Ms. Petia Gegova, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, and Mr. Dimitar Ivanovski, Deputy Minister of Economy. The event was attended by 23 district governors and mayors.

The agenda highlighted the policies for regional innovation in EU and Bulgaria, the possible benefits of RIS projects for the development of the regions, as well as the specific experience of the South Central Region of Bulgaria, which is now piloting a regional innovation strategy.

Dr. Michael Busch of DG Enterprises, explained the specific objectives and terms of the forthcoming call for proposals to be announced in March 2004.
