Bulgarian Safer Internet Hotline Presented to 60 Child Welfare Organizations
ARC Fund, the operator of the Bulgarian Hotline against illegal and harmful Internet content, presented the Hotline and its procedures at a 4-day conference held in Bansko (Southwestern Bulgaria) on July 27-30, 2006.

The conference titled “The Net: Damnation or Salvation” gathered representatives of more than 60 non-government organizations from across Bulgaria working in the field of child welfare, childrens' rights, children at risk, etc. The organizations are members of the National Network for Children, which is coordinated by the Sofia-based Parents Association.

Several organizations volunteered to participate in the activities of the SAFE-NET BG project. Foundation Intermedia proposed to co-organize several sports events for children with the financial support of big IT companies to promote the Hotline's visibility.

CVS-Bulgaria proposed that its volunteers could disseminate the Rules for Safer Internet in the dozens of semi-legal Internet-clubs existing in most of the dwelling compounds in the big Bulgarian cities. Several other organizations also proposed to disseminate the Safer Internet Rules for Kids and Rules for Parents, and use their contacts in the mass media to publicize the Hotline and the safer Internet principles. CVS-Bulgaria volunteers would be ready after proper training to surf Bulgarian websites in order to identify and locate child pornographic or other hermful and illegal content, and send signals to the Hotline's operators.

Several organizations expressed interest in organizing joint publications or seminars to help promote safer Internet use by children in Bulgaria.
