ARC Fund Awarded Best National Performer in FP6
ARC Fund was presented with a Crystal Prize for its outstanding performance in the Sixth Framework Programme of the EU for Research and Technological Development. ARC Fund was awarded the most successful Bulgarian non-governmental organizations participating in FP6 by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science of Bulgaria, Mr. Daniel Vulchev.

The Crystal Prize was presented to ARC Fund’s Executive Director, Mr. Nikolay Badinski, during a two-day conference dedicated to the start of the new Seventh Framework Programme, which took place in Sofia on January 31st - February 1st, 2007.

Other prize-holders included Sofia University, recognized as the most successful FP6 participant among Bulgarian universities and research centers – with a total of 22 projects amounting to over €2 million.

The Technical University of Sofia received a prize for attracting the most EU funding under FP6 - €3 million in a total of 20 projects.

The 'Paisii Hilendarski' University of Plovdiv was the most active university outside the capital city with 7 projects.

The most successful institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Science was the Institute for Parallel Processing which participated in 13 projects of over €2 million.

The most successful private company is Sirma Group with 11 projects and over €2 million.

As the most successful non-governmental organization ARC Fund participated in 10 projects amounting to over €1.5 million, most of them in the areas of “Innovation” and “Information Society Technologies”.

Ms. Sonia Spassova from the State Agency for Information Technologies and Communications received the prize for the most successful National Contact Point. Ms. Spassova was NCP for the IST thematic program under FP6, where Bulgarian organizations participated in a total of 72 IST projects amounting to €8 million – i.e. about one-fourth of all FP6 projects with Bulgarian participation.

Ms. Albena Voutsova, National Coordinator of FP6 received a special award for her overall contribution to Bulgarian science in FP6. Bulgarian researchers were involved in 270 projects under FP6, and received a total of €32 million from the European Commission.
