Urban Youth Fest for Safer Internet in Sofia
From 6 till 8 of July, the first edition of the Open Air Summer Festival ’07 of digital arts and extreme sports attracted hundreds of urban youth in downtown Sofia. Several official institutions and non-governmental organizations, ARC Fund among the others, joined efforts in organizing a summer event for children and teenagers under the Safer Internet campaign of the Bulgarian Hotline against illegal and harmful content in Internet, operated by ARC Fund, and the Love Yourself to be Loved by Others campaign against addictions by the State Agency for Youth and Sports.

The festival start was announced by the Deputy-premier and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ivaylo Kalfin, the Chairman of the State Agency for Information Technology and Communications Mr. Plamen Vachkov, the Deputy-chairman of the State Agency for Youth and Sports Mr. Mihail Balabanov and the Director of the 106 i-Centers all over the country Mr. Krassimir Simonski.

On the first day of the festival, several seminars on digital arts, web-design, computer-aided design, Internet advertisement and publishing were organized by the Hard Music&Sounds United which started also a 40-hours Drum&Bass Marathon at Malo Buchino site near Sofia with participation of artists from 15 countries.

On July 7, some of the artists came as guests to the open-air scene at the main venue of the Festival in front of the National Palace of Culture (NDK). Inside the NDK i-Center the national finals of Cyber Games were held to select the team to represent Bulgaria at the World Cyber Games Championship. The Bulgarian Federation for Electronic Sport (BFES) organizing the Cyber Games was one of the main co-organizers of the Open Air Summer Festival ’07.

Graffitti, skating, poi (fire juggling), shooting at CDs, hard disk throwing and orientation competition, aimed at finding the letters of the Hotline web-address WEB112.NET, were among the various events of the festival that attracted many media, viewers and participants.

Indoor, school children from 26th High School in Sofia presented part of the theatrical play The Millionaire directed by the Group for Alternative Theatre, and a Kid and Computer round-table discussion was held.

Various amusing games with the public, as well as the other competitions ensured the most enthusiastic participants many prizes provided by the Festival sponsors Samsung, Microsoft, Circa, Plesio. Fireworks marked the end of the second day of the Festival which continued the next with the dance marathon at Malo Buchino.
