Bulgarian Hotline launches Safer Internet training for school teachers
The Bulgarian Safer Internet Hotline - SafeNet BG (web112.net), which fights the dissemination of online content that is illegal and harmful particularly to children and young teenagers, started in November a series of training seminars targeting school directors and teachers, as well as representatives of Regional Inspectorates for Education around the country.

On November 12th, with support from the Ministry of Education and Science and Microsoft-Bulgaria, the Hotline initiative was presented in the town of Veliko Tarnovo to experts in charge of IT education in primary and middle schools from 26 of all 28 education inspectorates around the country. At the event, the goals and activities of the Safer Internet Hotline were explained; the role of schools in teaching children safer Internet rules was discussed; new initiatives were presented; and Safer Internet information materials were distributed for dissemination among children and parents.

On November 24th, two seminars were held in the town of Shoumen organized to coincide with the annual competition in IT among school children. School directors, managers of school computer labs and IT teachers from more than 70 schools in the Shoumen region were acquainted with the European Union's Safer Internet Programme and the Bulgarian Hotline Project. At the seminars the current situation in Bulgaria concerning Internet and mobile technologies penetration, the risks for children and Safer Internet rules were presented. The role of parents and teachers in preventing the risks facing children in Internet were discussed, as well various forms of future cooperation between schools and the Hotline team in raising public awareness about the dangers for children in using Internet and mobile technologies.
