| Participation of representatives of the district authorities of the South Central Region in the Innovation Week in Thessaly |

In the period 14-17 November 2002 ARC Fund organised a trip for the district governors from the 6 districts in the SC regions with the aim to participate in the Innovation Week in Larissa and Volos, Greece (06-17 November 2002). The delegation was hosted by the Secretary General of the Region of Thessaly and the Regional Development Fund of Thessaly.
During the exhibition within the Innovation Week each representative of the 6 Bulgarian districts met with Mr. Nikolas Hristodolakis, Minister of Economy and Finance of Greece and Mr. Marko di Martino, representative of the European Commission responsible for innovation in the Greek regions.
The district governors participated also in a special seminar in Thessaly on the Regional Innovation Policy in Greece. The Bulgarian visitors got acquainted with the results from the RIS and RIS+ initiatives in the region of Thessaly and with the new INVENT programme for the period 2002-2003. The regional innovation strategies of the Central Macedonia, West Macedonia, North Aegea, Peloponnesus, Starea Elada were also presented at the seminar.
Another visit was paid to the Technology Park in Volos, established in November 2001 as an initiative of The Research Institute of Metals, University of Thessaly, The Regional Development Fund and leading companies from the region. The main business objective of the park is to attract newly established hi-tech companies and encourage them to work in networks with other companies and RTOs.
