BOOK DONATION
CSD is the official local partner of the US Sabre
Foundation. Since 1991, CSD has acted as Sabre's clearing house in
Bulgaria and has assisted in the selection and distribution of 14
separate book shipments. Over 9,500 titles in economics, technical
and humanitarian sciences, and medicine have been donated to
various libraries, research institutes, hospitals, government
agencies, schools, and individuals. In this process CSD is
responsible mainly for the selection of titles and the quantity of
books requested. The Open Society Foundation assists the
distribution.
The latest shipment was received at CSD in October
1997. This donation was sponsored by the Open Society Foundation
which covered the transportation expenses. It consists of 20,000
specialized publications and is valued at over one million US
dollars. The titles in this donation were selected in consultation
with leading specialists from the national library coordination
council who requested specific titles for distribution to various
libraries countrywide.
An exhibition of books donated to the National
University Hospital 'Tsaritsa Joanna' was shown in December. This
donation includes over 200 specialized medical titles valued at
over 20,000 US dollars. In 1998 donations will be made to the
National Public Library, Sofia University 'St. Kliment Ohridski',
Medical Academy - Sofia, medical institutes and schools of higher
education as well as to public libraries across the country.
