John Kreis is a Research Staff Member in the
Operational Evaluation Division at the Institute for Defense
Analyses in Alexandria, Virginia. He as served in that position
since 1997, having previously served as a Adjunct Staff Member
(1994-1997) and as a Consultant (1987-1994).
Prior to joining IDA, he served as a consultant to
Eagle Aviation Services Technology (1988-1992), Highflight, Ltd.
(1987-1990), OP24, Ltd. (1989-1989), and Analytic Services, Inc.
(1987-1989).
From 1962 to 1987, he serves as a Security Police
Officer and Air Warfare Analyst (Office of Air Force History) with
the United States Air Force.
He holds a BA in Economics from Willamette
University (1962); and an MA in History from the University of
Delaware (1975). He attended the FBI National Academy in 1973
(winner of the J. Edgar Hoover Award); the Industrial College of
the Armed Forces in 1974; the Air War College in 1978; the Air
Command and Staff School in 1977; the Northwestern University
Traffic Institute in 1972; and the U.S. Army Combat Intelligence
Officer School in 1970.
He is the author of numerous books and articles, and
participates in a variety of professional associations.
