Mr. Junokas is the Director of the Special
Investigations Service in Lithuania.
He was born in 1944 in Taraldziai village, Rokiskis,
Lithuania. In 1976, he graduated from the Gorky Higher School of
the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs with a specialty of
attorney.
From 1976 to 1980, he was a Senior Inspector in the
Economic Crimes Division, in the city of Kaunas, and served as an
Instructor at the Kaunas Specialized Secondary School for Police.
Later, he served as a Head of a sub-division, later a division, in
the Economic Crimes Investigation Board of the Ministry of the
Interior of the Republic of Lithuania from 1980 to 1990.
From 1990 to 1991, he served as an Instructor at the
Intelligence-gathering Faculty of the Police Academy of Lithuania
(now called the Law Academy of Lithuania). He served as a
Commissioner-Inspector at the Analytical Division of the Police
Department under the Ministry of the Interior.
From 1991 to 1997, he served as the Chief of the
Ninth Division of the State Security Department, with the rank of
Colonel.
In 1997, he became the Deputy Head of the Special
Investigations Service under the Ministry of the Interior of the
Republic of Lithuania. He served in that position until June 2000,
when he was promoted to Director.
His awards include the 5th class Order of the
Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas, for contributions to Lithuania,
awarded on 3 July 1995, by decree of the President of the Republic
of Lithuania.
