Round table: Draft Law on the Forfeiture to the State of Any Property Acquired by Criminal Activity
 








On September 10, 2002, Coalition 2000 and the Center for the Study of Democracy held a round table discussion on the Draft Law on the Forfeiture to the State of Any Property Acquired by Criminal Activity. The draft law was presented by Professor Georgi Petkanov, Minister of Interior. Ms. Karen Kramer, Resident Legal Advisor at the Embassy of the USA to Bulgaria , informed of the American laws on the forfeiture to the state of any property acquired by criminal activity and expressed support to the draft law, elaborated by the Ministry of Interior. Government officials, MPs, magistrates, diplomats and journalists took part in the discussion.

In their statements Mr. Bozhidar Bozhinov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Vassil Kirov, Director of Financial Intelligence Bureau Agency, Mr. Rumen Georgiev, Deputy Director of the Specialized Investigation Agency, Mr. Konstantin Palikarski, expert at the Council of Ministers and Mr. Gati Al Dzheburi, Deputy Minister of Finance leveled criticism and recommendations at the draft law.
