On September 25, 2002, Mr. Odd Malme, Deputy
National Police Commissioner and Mr. Arne Huuse, Director of the
National Criminal Investigation Service of Norway visited the
Center for the Study of Democracy accompanied by Mr. Ole Bjornoy,
Deputy Chief of Mission, and Mr. Arne Kristiansen, Liaison Officer
at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sofia. Mr. Malme and Mr. Huuse
discussed a possible future cooperation with experts from the
Ministry of the Interior of Bulgaria, including the National
Service for Combating the Organized Crime and the Border Police, at
the working lunch hosted by CSD.
The visit was organized within the framework of a
new program which will be implemented by CSD and will aim to
enhance the capacity of the law enforcement agencies in Bulgaria to
counteract corruption. The project will introduce a training
program in the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior and the
Bulgarian Military Academy as an effort to institutionalize the
transfer to the Bulgarian security forces to the best international
practices in preventing corruption.
