Round table: Corruption and Success of the Transition
On November 6, 2001, Coalition 2000 jointly with the New Bulgarian University organized a round table dedicated to the problem of corruption vs the success of the transition. The NBU Rector Professor Ivanka Apostolva and
Professor Antoni Todorov, Head of NBU Political Science Department
opened the Round Table. Political corruption, corruption and
privatization, and corruption and social values were among the main
topics discussed. Among the participants were lecturers and
students of the NBU Political Science Department.
Alexander Stoyanov, Director of Research at the
Center for the Study of Democracy, presented the Corruption
Monitoring System and Corruption Indexes for October 2001. Dr.
Zhivka Damyanova and Mr.Tihomir Bezlov presented Coalition
2000 anti-corruption initiatives. Mr. Bezlov announced the
results of the experts' group work on the problems of corruption
and trafficking. Summarizing the results of the Round Table,
Professor Antoni Todorov emphasized on the fact that Political
Science Department will continue the discussion on the problems of
countering corruption and in particular the various aspects of
anti-corruption education.
