Workshop: Establishing Ombudsman Institution in Bulgaia
On March 19, 2002, the Center for
the Study of Democracy hosted a workshop The Establishment of
the Ombudsman Institution in Bulgaria. The workshop was
organized by the CSD Law Program together with Open Society
Foundation as a follow up to the roundtable discussion held from
February 28 to March 3, 2002.
At the event the experts that participated in the roundtable
discussion presented their statement regarding the draft laws on
the establishment of Ombudsman Institution in Bulgaria introduced
to the 39th National Assembly.
The participants at the workshop included: Mr. Dimitar Abadjiev,
MP and one of the introducers of the Draft Law on the Ombudsman;
Mr. Ahmed Usein, MP and Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee
on Human Rights and Religion; Ms. Maria Slavova, Member of the
Public Council to the Parliamentary Committee on Civil Society
Issues; the Civic Mediator of Sofia Municipality Ms. Antoaneta
Tsoneva; representatives of civil organizations; and members of the
CSD Law Program Task Force, which elaborated the concept paper and
the draft law on the introduction of the ombudsman institution in
Bulgaria.
The participants also discussed the opportunities for future
cooperation on the basis of public-private partnership for the
adoption of the most appropriate solution regarding the
establishment of the Ombudsman Institution in Bulgaria.
