Court Administration Reform Presentation to No 2 Dimplomatic Club
|

Following the tradition of hosting No 2 Diplomatic
Club 2 regular meetings, on March 7, 2001, the Center for the
Study of Democracy organized a discussion on court administration
reform in Bulgaria.
The discussion was opened by the new President of
the Club Mr. Winfried Schlote, Deputy Head of Mission of the
Embassy of Germany. The guest lecturers Mr. Vladislav Slavov, Chair of the Supreme Administrative Court and of the Union of Jurists in Bulgaria, and Ms. Kapka Kostova, Chair of Sofia Regional Court and of Association of Judges in Bulgaria, presented the ongoing Court Administration Reform in Bulgaria. Mr. Vladislav Slavov briefed the participants with the functioning of the Supreme Administrative Court and the activities undertaken for reforming its
administration. Ms. Kapka Kostova informed the Club members about
the projects carried out with the involvement of Association of
Judges in Bulgaria aimed at improving the Court administration
performance.
The discussion, which followed the speakers
summaries, focused on the issues of judicial control over the
administration, the proposed changes in criminal procedures and the
possibilities for training judges and other judicial officials.
