Coalition 2000 announced a competition for anti-corruption projects Civil Society Against Corruption. The program Civil Society Against Corruption aims to promote civil society participation in anti-corruption activities and in the application of mechanisms of civil control over the state, especially with regard to the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for Bulgaria for the period 2001-2004. The program Civil Society Against Corruption supports public-awareness activities and anti-corruption coalitions at the local and national levels, based on partnership between non-governmental organizations and state and municipal authorities in the framework of the Anti-Corruption Action Plan of Coalition 2000.

Priorities:

• Civil initiatives for the publicity and transparency of the work of local authorities in the spheres of public procurement; public services, especially those connected with licensing and permits, privatization, economic activity; the relationship between businesses and local administration; civil observation and systematic reporting of cases of corruption at the local or national level, including activities of public service organizations.

• Civil observation of the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy for Bulgaria in its basic points: creation of a general institutional and legal environment for curbing corruption, anti-corruption measures in the judiciary and the legislation, limiting corruption in the economic sphere, and anti-corruption cooperation between state institutions, non-governmental organizations and the media.

Selection and Approval of the Projects

The process of approval goes through the following stages:

• Examination and selection of the projects by the Evaluation Committee, consisting of Coalition 2000 experts and representatives of the donor organization.
• Presentation of the projects selected by the Evaluation Committee to the Steering Committee of Coalition 2000, which will make the final decision about approval and the amount of financing.

Three identical copies of the projects should be sent to the Secretariat of Coalition 2000: Sofia 1113, 1 Tsvetan Radoslavov str., no later than Monday, September 16, 2000 at 6 p.m.
The results of the competition will be declared the last week of October, 2002.
