Chinese Delegation visits the Center for the Study of Democracy
On 9 April 2012 the Center for the Study of Democracy and ARC Fund hosted a visit by a delegation of the Henan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries of the People’s Republic of China. The event reciprocates the visit of a CSD delegation to China last November during which the Bulgarian guests held meetings in Henan. The Chinese delegation was led by Mr. Li Guosheng, Executive Vice Chairman of the Henan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
During the meeting the two sides expressed willingness to establish a long-term partnership and develop cooperation within the framework of the traditional Bulgarian-Chinese relations. Dr. Ognian Shentov, Chairman of the Center for the Study of Democracy, informed the guests about the main research and advocacy areas covered by CSD and ARC Fund. He stressed on the specific role of civil society organizations including think tanks within the context of the democratic process in the country.
Mr. Li Guosheng presented the scope of activities of the Henan People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. He especially outlined the role of the Henan province with a population of over one hundred million citizens as the cradle of Chinese history and culture, which is currently considered as one of the most dynamic provinces in China. Mr. Li expressed his satisfaction about the long-term contacts established with the Center for the Study of Democracy and his commitment to contribute to the development of bilateral relations. In this context he emphasized on the importance of setting up a platform for long term cooperation with CSD.
Closing the meeting, Dr.Ognian Shentov and Mr. Li Guosheng signed a Letter of Intent, which provides for a platform for enhanced cooperation in different areas and regular contacts for the exchange of views on issues of mutual concern.
A cocktail given in honor of the Chinese guests followed the meeting.
