A Leading World Bank Anti-Corruption Expert Meets with Coalition 2000

On September 9, 1998 the leading World Bank anti-corruption expert, Petter Langseth, met with the Coalition 2000 secretariat to discuss the Anti-Corruption Action Plan developed by the Coalition. "The Coalition 2000 project is the most impressive anti-corruption initiative I have come across in all the 20 countries I am currently working with," said Langseth. "In only a year you have achieved as much as we were able to achieve in Uganda after five years of work," he continued.

The awareness campaign envisaged in the Coalition 2000 Anti-Corruption Action Plan was a major subject of discussions. Emil Georgiev, Coordinator of the Coalition 2000, pointed out that the media could provide an important feedback on the efficiency of the Coalition 2000 anti-corruption efforts. In his turn, Langseth advised Coalition 2000 to expand its activity at а municipal level. "Special focus has to be placed on the quality of service delivery, which in most cases is a good indicator for the level of corrupt practices" he said.
