Conference: Political Corruption in Europe: Status and Perspectives

On November 14, 2003, the Heinrich Boell Stiftung, Berlin, organized a conference on Political Corruption in Europe: Status and Perspectives.

The issue of political corruption is set on the political agenda since it became clear that it is a serious threat to democratic trust building and to the quality of governing and administration. It enhances out of the mixture of criminal and political structures which has a different history in the diverse poitical systems and appears in different faces. The conference focused on political corruption in Eastern and in Western Europe and made an overview of instruments and success stories of European anticorruption politics. It aimed at answering the questions: Is European democracy endangered by elements where crime and political structures are entangled? What efforts have to be made in European politics to minimize those developments? What does have Green politics to do?
