On August 28, 2002, Transparency International (TI) published its annual Corruption Perception Indexes (CPI). This year Bulgaria is ranked 45th, 2 places higher than the last year, with a score of 4. Details on the survey results.
The TI Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2002 ranks 102 countries in terms of the degree to which corruption is perceived to exist among public officials and politicians. It is a composite index, drawing on 15 different polls and surveys from nine independent institutions carried out among business people and country analysts, including surveys of residents, both local and expatriate.
According to TI's indexes, corruption is perceived to be rampant in Indonesia, Kenya, Angola, Madagascar, Paraguay, Nigeria and Bangladesh, countries with a score of less than 2. Countries with a score of higher than 9, with very low levels of perceived corruption, are predominantly rich countries, namely Finland, Denmark, New Zealand, Iceland, Singapore and Sweden.
