The Importance of a Free Media in the Fight against Corruption

CSD and the Royal Embassy of Norway in Bulgaria co-organized a two-day media seminar on "The Importance of a Free Media in the Fight against Corruption" on October 22-23, 2003. Bulgarian and Norwegian investigative journalists and media specialists debated on the role of the investigative journalism to reveal large-scale corruption and the right of access to information.

A keynote speaker to the seminar was Ms. Eva Joly, who is worldwide recognized for her outstanding contribution to the fight against corruption in France. At the end of the seminar she delivered a lecture on the Paris Declaration and the new international anti-corruption agenda. The declaration, which has been initiated by Ms. Joly, was supported by 25 international figures, known for their battle against corruption and violations of human rights.
