Press Conference for Presenting the Results from a Survey Typology of the Corruption Practices in Higher Education in Bulgaria and a Strategy for Counteraction

On 18 November, 2004 at the Center for Study of Democracy the Association for Social Investigations organized a press conference for presenting the results from a survey Typology of the Corruption Practices in Higher Education in Bulgaria and a Strategy for Counteraction. The survey was conducted under Civil Society Against Corruption Program of Coalition 2000.

Representatives from the Association for Social Investigations presented the results from a representative empirical-sociological survey for all higher education institutions in Bulgaria, on a department level, excluding the military schools. The survey included an analysis of the responses of 1313 students and 238 professors.

The aim of the survey was not to acquit or accuse academic institutions of corruption practices. The major aim was to identify whether corruption is a problem in the academic area and if yes, to look for its institutional premises, and from there – for institutional opportunities to solve this problem. The full report with interpretation of the survey results will be published in December, 2004.
