Regional Expert Meeting Rethinking Stability in the Weak States: the Case of Western Balkans
 
A regional expert meeting titled Rethinking Stability in the Weak States: the Case of Western Balkans took place on 7 December, 2004 in Tirana, Albania. The meeting was organized by the Albanian Institute for International Studies and Friedrich Ebert Foundation. A number of leading nongovernmental organizations from the Western Balkan states took part in the expert meeting: Institute for European Studies in Beograd, Serbia; University of Prishtina in Prishtina, Kosovo; Institute for Sociological, Political, and Juridical Research in Skopje, FYR of Macedonia; Center for Study of Democracy in Sofia, Bulgaria, as well as representatives from different nongovernmental organizations in Albania.

During the meeting Mr. Dimitar Markov, project coordinator at the Law program of the Center for Study of Democracy presented the experience of Coalition 2000 in building public-private partnerships towards counteracting corruption. The participants in the meeting discussed opportunities for joint future projects in the region of Western Balkans in areas such as: counteracting corruption, human rights, integration of ethnic minorities, improving security in the region.
