Union of Jurists in Bulgaria
Closing Document
We suggest:
1. Codes of ethics to be developed for all legal professions, including for those not explicitely envisaged by the law;
2. Legislative amendments to be proposed, envisaging codes of ethics for all legal professions as well as sanctions for not complying with them;
3. Legal non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to inform each other on their codes of ethics;
4. Rules and mechanisms for control and enforcement to be included in the codes of ethics;
5. A task force to be set up including one representative of each legal NGO for developing rules for mutual control between the different legal professions. These rules should be proposed for adoption to the organizations' respective bodies according to their statutes.
6. Upon initiative of the Union of Bulgarian Jurists annual meetings to be held of all legal NGOs for reporting and discussing the implementation of the codes of ethics and the interaction between the organizations;
7. A course on Ethics and Standards in Legal Professions to be proposed to the universities' faculties of law for inclusion in their curricula.
