| Civic Association for Fighting Corruption and Illegal Construction Published a Brochure Advising Citizens How to Avoid Fraud with Illegal Construction and Transformation of Living Premises

 In January, 2005 the Civic Association for Fighting Corruption and Illegal Construction, Sofia published a brochure titled Protect Your Home. The brochure is issued in 1000 copies and will be distributed among civic associations of citizens united against illegal construction and illegal transformation of buildings, as well as among representatives of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, hygiene-epidemic inspections, Sofia Municipality, Sofia City Council, etc. The flyer explains the harmful effects on the human health and public hygiene from the illegal transformation and usage of living premises as premises for commercial, health care, educational, etc. purposes.
The brochure is published under the project Civic Monitoring over the Process of Issuing Licenses by Hygiene-Epidemic Inspectorate and National Fire and Emergency Service in Cases of Building and Reconstruction. The project is implemented under the Civil Society Against Corruption Program of Coalition 2000 with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development.
Experts from the association also developed a set of concrete proposals for monitoring and increasing the transparency of the procedures for transformation of living premises into premises for public and commercial use carried out by the officials of the hygiene-epidemic inspections and the state sanitary inspectorate.
In November, 2004 the Civic Association for Fighting Corruption and Illegal Construction also opened a "hot telephone line" where citizens in Sofia can call and submit complaints against corruption practices with building or reconstruction permits issuance. The complaints can be submitted at the following telephone number: 02.9549024 or email: antisofcor@abv.bg.
