Workshop: The Ombudsman - New Instrument for Promotion of Disadvantaged Persons' Rights
 
On November 20, 2003, a workshop on The Ombudsman – New Instrument for Promotion of Disadvantaged Persons’ Rights was in the city of Pleven. The event was organized jointly by the Center for the Study of Democracy and the Initiative for Sustainable Development Local Agenda 21 – Veliko Turnovo.

Ms. Petia Dragostinova, Attorney-at-Law at the Veliko Turnovo Bar Association, presented the European and Bulgarian legislation concerning disadvantaged persons within the context of the transition towards integrated Europe and underlined that the protection of disadvantaged persons’ rights should be part of their social integration.

Mr. Konstantin Tanev, Fellow at the CSD Law Program, spoke on the significance of the ombudsman institution for human rights protection and in particular for its great efficiency as mechanism for protection of disadvantaged persons’ rights.

Ms. Katia Nikolova acquainted the participants with the European Social Charter and the characteristics of its application in Bulgaria.
