On November 14-15, 2003, a Regional Conference and NGO Forum under the initiative Community of Democracies took place in Bucharest, Romania. The Center for the Study of Democracy and Coalition 2000 were invited to present their experience and to share best practices in the field of fighting corruption. Representatives from more than 25 Southeast European, Western European countries and the USA took part in the forum.
The Bucharest NGO Forum presented an opportunity for dialogue which would facilitate the advancement of democratic reforms in Central and Eastern Europe. The main objective of Bucharest NGO Forum was to give a floor to NGOs representatives to share best practices and formulate recommendations to consolidate democracy in Central and Eastern European countries, with particular focus on:
(a) NGOs role in promoting good governance and fighting corruption
(b) NGOs regional cooperation mechanisms to promote Education for Democracy
The NGOs Forum was organized by Partners for Local Development Foundation (FPDL), with the support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Romania Country Office.
