| Round Table: The Bulgarian Transition and the Democratic Reforms in the Arab Countries: Differences, Similarities, Interaction

On December 12, 2005 the Center for the Study of Democracy organized a round table to discuss the Bulgarian Transition and the Democratic Reforms in the Arab Countries: Differences, Similarities, Interaction. It brought together representatives of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sofia University Department of Arabic and Semitic Studies, the diplomatic missions of Palestine and Iraq, NGOs and Arab journalists.
The round table participants shared their understanding of the trends in Arab democratic reforms, their views on the prospects for Bulgarian-Arab relations and the ways NGOs can make a contribution to their development.
Several practical proposals were made, such as: to build on the already brisk academic communication between Bulgarian and Arab universities; to encourage and assist Bulgarian parties in their contacts and interchange with ideologically akin parties in the Arab countries.
