 On 30 January 2006 the Distance Learning Center hosted a videoconference to present the global social entrepreneurs’ experiences and to discuss possible future cooperation between the World Bank Institute - Paris and the Ashoka program in this sphere. The participants underlined that the social entrepreneurship is essential for solving a number of problems including development of low income communities, management of infrastructure, basic educational needs, natural disaster mitigation, etc. These experiences are of great interest for policy makers in many different parts of the world, including in advanced countries.
Together with World Bank Institute staff in Paris and Washington, participants from Bulgaria, Canada, France, Tanzania, and the United States shared the creative approaches they are using to address development issues in their communities. They discussed programs, focused on the importance of empathy, female labour, and teaching family planning.
