Introducing Strategies for Effective Police Stop and Search
The Center for the Study of Democracy in cooperation with the Open Society Justice Initiative is launching an initiative which will improve police-minority relations through increasing the effectiveness and accountability of police powers to conduct identity checks and searches in Bulgaria. A monitoring system that enhances police management and accountability of stops will be established and the police stop-and-search manual will be adapted. The project will generate replicable models of good practice that can be disseminated regionally.
The work will be carried out in cooperation with the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, the Metropolitan Police Service and the Leicestershire Constabulary, UK, as well as partners from from Hungary and Spain. The final results will be analyzed and presented in comparative perspective at a European regional seminar with existing regional policing networks.
