Series of Videoconferences: Private Sector Development

On 25 October 2006 the Distance Learning Center - Sofia and World Bank's Global Development Learning Network (GDLN), with the support of the Austrian Development Agency launched three series of videoconferences in the framework of the Private Sector Development Initiative for Southeastern Europe. This initiative brought together policy-makers, civil society and other national organizations from eight countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Rumania and Serbia, along with World Bank staff. It aimed to seek strengthening of the understanding and awareness on the main issues regarding the proposed three major topics:
SME development and access to finance
Reviewing issues of regional competitiveness
Improving the investment climate
Some of the most interesting topics presented were related to enterprise access to finance; private sector economic development and competitiveness building strategies; regulatory reform and regulatory impact analysis; privatization, enterprise restructuring and SME development; creation of industrial clusters; labor competitiveness and regulation, etc.
The three series ended in May 2007.
