International Conference: Anticorruption Policies and Practices in Southeast Europe
 
On 9 December 2008 at Boyana Conference Center an international conference took place, entitled Anti-corruption Policies and Practices in South Eastern Europe. The conference was dedicated to the International Anti-Corruption Day, which has been commemorated on 9 December each year since 2003 by resolution of the UN General Assembly.

This international forum was held under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. The Regional Project Office for South Eastern Europe of the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Sofia was the main organizer of the conference. The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) and the Center for the Study of Democracy were partners and co-organizers of the event.

Members of Parliament, representatives of the executive and the judiciary, diplomats, representatives of international organizations took part in the conference. They described the situation in the region, regarding the problems and the opportunities for fighting corruption. National policies and strategies, effective institutional mechanisms, good practices and successful initiatives for preventing and fighting corruption were presented. Regional cooperation in the fight against corruption was also discussed within the framework of the conference panels.
