 Round table: The Ombudsman Institution at European, National and Local Level
On November 28, 2006, the Center for the Study of Democracy in cooperation with Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria held a round table discussion on The Ombudsman Institution at European, National and Local Level. Guest speaker at the event was the European Ombudsman Prof. Nikiforos Diamandouros who spoke before representatives of non-governmental organizations, local public mediators from throughout the country, representatives of foreign missions and officials from the Bulgarian ombudsman’s administrative staff.

International workshop: Policing Minorities
On September 28-29, 2006, the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) in cooperation with the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC) held an international workshop on policing minorities. The event was aimed to broaden the opportunities for Bulgarian NGOs to work with government and law-enforcement institutions in addressing issues of ethnic and racial discrimination and violence and to increase the capacity of Bulgarian law-enforcement institutions to prevent and analyze issues related to ethnic and racist violence and discrimination. more »

Public discussion on: Anticorruption Public Councils and the Local Public Mediators – Anticorruption Network in Pazardjik District
On May 30, 2006 in the Press-club of BTA in Pazardjik took place the final conference of the “Anticorruption network in Pazardjik District” project, organized by Crime Prevention Fund IGA. Representatives of 7 Municipalities in District Pazardjik – Belovo, Bratsigovo, Rakitovo, Lesichovo, Septemvri, Batak and Pazardjik attended the conference.

Discussion: The Constitutional Amendments and the Ombudsman Institution. Specialized ombudsmen in Bulgaria
On March 28, 2006, CSD organized a public discussion devoted to the incorporation in the Constitution of the ombudsman institution as well as to the specialized ombudsmen in Bulgaria. Representatives of the National Ombudsman Office, the Public Mediator of the Sofia Municipality and his deputy, NGO representatives, experts and media attended the discussion.
