Seminar: The Informal Economy in Bulgaria in a Crisis: New Trends and Methods of Measuring
On 27 February 2009 the Center for the Study of Democracy, in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Foundation, organized a seminar on the issues of grey economy. The objective of the seminar was to gather expert opinion, information and materials for a forthcoming publication on the informal economy, as well as for future public discussions. more »
 
The informal economy in Bulgaria: Policy responses in an economic crisis
The annual Hidden Economy Index in Bulgaria for 2008 has registered a moderate decrease. In comparison, the index was 40% higher in 2002 when it was first assessed. The decrease is due to the shrinking of the hidden economy in all its assessed dimensions – tax evasion, hidden turnover and employment. However, business perceptions regarding the extent of the hidden economy in Bulgaria have kept on increasing since 2006. more »

Round Table: Corruption in Public Procurement: Risks and Reform Policies
On 26 June 2007 the Center for the Study of Democracy organized a round table on corruption in public procurement in Bulgaria with a special focus on the energy sector. Ninth Annual Anticorruption Policy Forum
On 23 April 2007 the Center for the Study of Democracy held the Ninth Annual Anticorruption Policy Forum. The Forum is a high profile public event for anti-corruption initiatives, supporting the efforts of civil society and public institutions in the fight against corruption. The eighth consecutive Corruption Assessment Report, entitled “Anti-Corruption Reforms in Bulgaria: Key Results and Risks” was presented and discussed by the participants. The report presents an overview of anti-corruption reforms in Bulgaria in 2006 and 2007. more »
 
Conference: Replacing the Bureaucracy with Transparent, Responsible and Open towards the Citizens Governance
On 27 March 2007 Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB)and Konrad Adenauer Foundation, in cooperation with the Foundation for Local Government Reform held a conference on transparent, responsible and open towards the citizens governance. APEC Workshop on Anti-corruption measures for the development of SMEs
Mr. Todor Yalamov from CSD's Economic Program participated in APEC Workshop on Anti-corruption measures for the development of SMEs, Ha Noi, Viet Nam, February 24-25, 2006, organized within Senior Officials Meeting of APEC in 2006 with the support of the Canadian government. Mr. Yalamov’s presentation highlighted CSD experience in anti-corruption and in particular how corruption measurement and monitoring could inform and facilitate policy making. more »
 
Presentation of CSD’s Expert Opinion on VAT Related Fraud
On 26 January 2006 Mr. Konstantin Pashev and Mr. Petkan Iliev, Senior Fellows at CSD Economic Program, took part in the meeting of the Parliamentary Combating Corruption Committee to discuss issues related to the countering of VAT fraud. The experts presented the main conclusions and recommendations from the CSD report Corruption and Tax Compliance.
