Bulgaria’s International Competitiveness 2018
According to the 2018 World Competitiveness Yearbook of the Institute for Management Development (IMD, Switzerland), the Bulgarian economy, being driven by the EU, is slowly, though unimpressively, recovering. In 2018, Bulgaria ranks 48th out of 63 economies, an improvement of seven positions compared to 2015, but a decline compared to 2007. more »

Defrauding the Bulgarian Public Procurement System: Prevention, Countering and Analysis of Corruption Risks
Despite the legislative and institutional progress, especially in terms of increased transparency and access to data, the public procurement (PP) sector in Bulgaria continues to be associated with high levels of corruption risk. The number of irregularities uncovered by the control bodies remains considerable. At the same time there is a lack of effective investigation, while criminal cases, involving PP, are still very limited and predominantly focused on the lower levels of governance. more »
 
The Kremlin Playbook: Understanding Russian Influence in Central and Eastern Europe
Russia has used a number of instruments to amplify its economic footprint in Central and Eastern Europe, aiming to increase its political influence, to capture public policy making, and ultimately to discredit the West's democratic model, and undermine trans-Atlantic ties. These instruments have been outlined in The Kremlin Playbook: Understanding Russian Influence in Eastern and Central Europe, a report prepared by the Center for the Study of Democracy in partnership with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). CSD awarded five stars from Transparify
In the 2016 Transparify ranking, the Center for the Study of Democracy is awarded five stars for a second time, along with two SELDI members from Montenegro – the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) and Institute Alternative (IA). Transparify, a non-profit initiative based in Georgia (Caucasus), provides the first-ever global rating of the financial transparency of 200 major think tanks in 47 countries. more »
