  The COST A25 meeting: Taking Advantage of Partial Transparency
A meeting of the COST research group of the European Commission on the topic of small arms and light weapons took place on 5th and 6th October 2005 in Sofia. The Center for the Study of Democracy is one of the new members of the group and hosted a COST meeting for the first time. The Center also co-organized the event together with Saferworld, SIPRI and the University of Bradford. more »
 
Videoconference: Corruption and Organized Crime
On 30 September, 2005 the Center for Study of Democracy and the Sofia Distance Learning Center hosted the fifth and final videoconference under the Anti-corruption pilot program titled Corruption and Organized Crime. It was delivered to representatives of public and private sector organizations and NGOs at the National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine, in Kiev and representatives from public and private sector and donor community in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. more »

IMF Published a New Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes on Fiscal Transparency for Bulgaria
In August 2005, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) published a new report titled Bulgaria: Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes (ROSC) — Fiscal Transparency Module. The report provides an assessment of fiscal transparency practices in Bulgaria in relation to the requirements of the IMF Code of Good Practices on Fiscal Transparency and IMF Manual on Fiscal Transparency. more »

Discussing the future cooperation with the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces of the German Bundestag
The opportunities for further cooperation between CSD and the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Armed Forces of the German Bundestag were discussed at a meeting in the Commissioner’s Office in Berlin. The meeting was held on July 28, 2005, and was a follow-up to the CSD initiative to examine the opportunities for introducing an ombudsman for the armed forces ombudsman in Bulgaria. The meeting was attended by the Commissioner’s assistant Ms. Anke Seidel and the CSD representatives Dr. Maria Yordanova, Director of the Law Program, and Mr. Ruslan Stefanov, Project Coordinator of the Economic Program. more »
