International conference: Justice in the Digital Era
CSD Law Program Senior Analyst Mr. Dimitar Markov was among the speakers at the international conference Justice in the Digital Era held in Sofia on 2-3 April 2009. The event, organized by Law and Internet Foundation in cooperation with Technologies and Internet Association (Romania), Center for Information Technologies and Law of the University of Bristol (UK), and DFLabs (Italy), was aimed at strengthening the capacity of Bulgarian and Romanian magistrates to investigate, prosecute and produce judgments in cases involving cyber crime. more »

Scientific Indicators of Confidence in Justice: Tools for Policy Assessment (JUSTIS) – International Conference
On 24-25 March 2009 the Center for the Study for Democracy hosted an international conference within the framework of the project Scientific Indicators of Confidence in Justice: Tools for Policy Assessment (JUSTIS) (http://www.eurojustis.eu/). The project is co-financed by the European Community’s FP7 2007-2013 and under it the Center partners with 8 other academic and research institutions from the UK, France, Lithuania, Hungary, Finland and Italy. The conference gathered representatives of the partner institutions, as well as members of the JUSTIS External Expert Group and other prominent criminologists. more »
 
Seminar: The Informal Economy in Bulgaria in a Crisis: New Trends and Methods of Measuring
On 27 February 2009 the Center for the Study of Democracy, in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Foundation, organized a seminar on the issues of grey economy. Presentation of analysis of the legal framework of local public mediators and recommendations for its improvement
Following up on its long-lasting efforts to establish and strengthen the ombudsman institution on national and local level in Bulgaria, the CSD Law Program prepared a study on the legal framework governing the activities of the local public mediators and recommendations for its improvement. The report was presented by the Law Program Assistant Ms. Galina Sapundjieva on 20 February 2009 at a workshop attended by the national ombudsman and local public mediators from throughout the country. more »
