Presentation of a report: Civil Society in Bulgaria: Trends and Risks
On 30 September 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy presented its report Civil Society in Bulgaria: Trends and Risks. The report aims at presenting the major trends and risks of civil society development in Bulgaria. It offers legislative changes related to the activities of NGOs as well as measures for self-regulation and internal control of the "third sector". more »
 
Round Table: Civil Society in the „Loops” of Power
On 15 July 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy with the support of Balkan Trust for Democracy organized a roundtable titled “Civil society in the ‘loops’ of power”. The event was a continuation of the discussion on the amendments to the Law on prevention and disclosure of conflicts of interest and a seminar focused on the necessary changes in the legal framework regulating the activities of non-governmental organizations. more »
 
LIBE Committee Hearing
The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament, and the European People’s Party invited CSD to present the results of the study Examining the links between organised crime and corruption. On 13 July 2010, Mr. Alexander Stoyanov, Research Director, Mr. Ruslan Stefanov, Director, Economic Program and Mr. Philip Gounev, Research Fellow at CSD presented to LIBE the study. Their presentation was followed by a lively discussion with numerous comments and questions. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Juan Lopez Aguilar (ES) of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the EP. more »
 
Seminar: The necessary changes in the legal framework for the operations of non-governmental organizations
On July 2, 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy with the support of Balkan Trust for Democracy, organized a seminar “Discussion on the necessary changes in the legal framework for the operations of non-governmental organizations (NGOs)”. The seminar was focused on the exchange of experience regarding the legal framework for NGOs and its application in the operations of local NGOs. The seminar took place in the town of Gabrovo and brought together 13 participants from Gabrovo and the region. more »
 
Round Table: Disclosure and Prevention of Conflicts of Interest
On 17 June 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy with the support of the Balkan Trust for Democracy organized a public discussion on the legal framework of prevention, disclosure, and the law enforcement of conflict of interest. Round table: Energy Policy and Energy Diversification
On 18 May 2010 the Center for the Study of Democracy organized a round table on energy policy and energy diversification. The main challenges and opportunities for energy diversification that Bulgaria faces were discussed during the event. The Center for the Study of Democracy presented an Issue Brief, which has been developed in cooperation with the Atlantic Council of the US. more »
