Roma reported the highest overall levels of discrimination across all areas surveyed in the Fundamental Rights Agency's EU-MIDIS survey. To improve the situation, Roma and Traveller communities must be involved in the design, implementation and evaluation of strategies targeting them, stresses the Fundamental Rights Agency in a statement ahead of International Roma Day on April 8.

The Situation of Roma EU Citizens Moving to and Settling in Other EU Member States
On 9 November 2009 The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) presented its report on ‘The Situation of Roma EU Citizens Moving to and Settling in Other EU Member States’. The report shows that many Roma EU citizens settling in another Member State in search of better conditions continue to experience racism, discrimination and exclusion.

FRA: Roma and Travellers face social exclusion and discrimination in housing
A new report by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) gives evidence that Roma and Travellers are strongly disadvantaged in private and social housing throughout the European Union. This includes discrimination in access to housing, poor housing conditions, segregation, and forced evictions. The FRA report highlights shortcomings and good practices across the EU. more »

EU Fundamental Rights Agency presents report on child trafficking in the EU:
EU must do more to fight child trafficking
On 7 July 2009, the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) released a new report on 'The role of the European Union in the fight against child trafficking'.
Many children fall victim to trafficking every year. There are extremely low numbers of convictions in child trafficking cases. Overall, the report finds that the EU must do more to address the issue. The FRA calls for better legislation to combat child trafficking. The protection and care for victims, in particular, must be improved. more »
EU proposes protection from discrimination beyond the workplace
The Commission has today adopted a proposal for a directive which provides for protection from discrimination on grounds of age, disability, sexual orientation and religion or belief beyond the workplace. This new directive would ensure equal treatment in the areas of social protection, including social security and health care, education and access to and supply of goods and services which are commercially available to the public, including housing. Eurobarometer surveys show that a large majority of Europeans support such legislation: 77% back measures to protect people from discrimination in education and 68% in access to goods and services. more »
Wider powers and greater measures needed to tackle homophobia
Equal protection by EU anti-discrimination law remains an ideal not a fact for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transsexuals (LGBT) living in many parts of the European Union (EU). Greater legislative protection and wider support within the EU is required. more »
FRA signs pledge to support UEFA anti-racism campaign
during EURO 2008™
The European Union’s Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) will join UEFA, FARE, FIFPro, football players and others in signing a “pledge” supporting respect for diversity at a launch event for EURO 2008™ on 7 June in Basel, Switzerland. This “pledge” is timely as a spate of events in Europe over the past year has shown that the spectrum of racism and other forms of intolerance still haunt the sport. more »
