Presentation of the CSD’s ninth corruption assessment report Crime without Punishment: Countering Corruption and Organized Crime in Bulgaria in Macedonia

Seminar: Conflict of Interest, Good Governance and Management of the Local Authority - Civil Society Relationship
On 14 May 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy, in conjunction with Ms. Maria Nedelcheva from the European People’s Party (EPP) and the Balkan Trust for Democracy initiative, organized a seminar on the topic of "Conflict of interest, good governance and management of the local authority - civil society relationship”. The seminar was focused on sharing experience in legislation pertaining to conflict of interest and its application to the public-private partnership between municipalities and NGOs. more »
 
Third Advisory Group Meeting of Asia-Europe Democratisation and Justice series
On 22 and 23 February 2010, the Center for the Study of Democracy hosted The third Advisory Group Meeting of Asia-Europe Democratisation and Justice Series organized by the Asia-Europe Foundation in partnership with Hanns Seidel Foundation Indonesia. The Advisory Group includes experts from relevant international and regional organisations, NGOs and academe in the field of democratisation and justice. more »
 
Discussion on the Priorities of Judicial Reform in Bulgaria
On 8 October 2009 Center for the Study of Democracy hosted a meeting with U.S. District Judge John R. Tunheim who visited Bulgaria as part of the U.S. Department of Justice efforts to assist the reform of the Bulgarian judicial system. more »
 
CSD Delegation Visits China
From 7 to 13 September 2009 a delegation from the Center for the Study of Democracy and the Applied Research and Communications Fund visited China to discuss common achievements and challenges between Bulgaria and China in the areas of good governance and technological development. more »
 
Conferring Awards on the Occasion of the 130th Anniversary of the Ministry of Justice
On 13 July 2009, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian Ministry of Justice, Minister Miglena Tacheva conferred awards - commemorative plaques, orders and honorary insignia - to over 80 Bulgarian statespersons, magistrates, employees of the Ministry of Justice, non-governmental organisations and journalists. more »
 
EU Fundamental Rights Agency presents report on child trafficking in the EU: EU must do more to fight child trafficking
On 7 July 2009, the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) released a new report on 'The role of the European Union in the fight against child trafficking'.
Many children fall victim to trafficking every year. There are extremely low numbers of convictions in child trafficking cases. Overall, the report finds that the EU must do more to address the issue. The FRA calls for better legislation to combat child trafficking. The protection and care for victims, in particular, must be improved. more »
 
International conference: Justice in the Digital Era
CSD Law Program Senior Analyst Mr. Dimitar Markov was among the speakers at the international conference Justice in the Digital Era held in Sofia on 2-3 April 2009. The event, organized by Law and Internet Foundation in cooperation with Technologies and Internet Association (Romania), Center for Information Technologies and Law of the University of Bristol (UK), and DFLabs (Italy), was aimed at strengthening the capacity of Bulgarian and Romanian magistrates to investigate, prosecute and produce judgments in cases involving cyber crime. more »
 
Public Discussion on Indicators of Public Confidence in Justice: Tools for Policy Assessment
On 24 March 2009 at the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) the Center for the Study of Democracy held a public discussion on indicators of public confidence in justice as tools for policy assessment. The discussion took place as part of the international scientific conference within the framework of the project Scientific Indicators of Confidence in Justice: Tools for Policy Assessment (JUSTIS) (http://www.eurojustis.eu/), which the Center hosted on 24-25 March 2009. more »
 
Scientific Indicators of Confidence in Justice: Tools for Policy Assessment (JUSTIS) – International Conference
On 24-25 March 2009 the Center for the Study for Democracy hosted an international conference within the framework of the project Scientific Indicators of Confidence in Justice: Tools for Policy Assessment (JUSTIS) (http://www.eurojustis.eu/). The project is co-financed by the European Community’s FP7 2007-2013 and under it the Center partners with 8 other academic and research institutions from the UK, France, Lithuania, Hungary, Finland and Italy. The conference gathered representatives of the partner institutions, as well as members of the JUSTIS External Expert Group and other prominent criminologists. more »
