Training for Varna students on the link between Internet and human trafficking

The team of the Safer Internet Centre from the Applied Research and Communications Fund conducted two training sessions in Varna on October 20-21. Trainings, one for the young people and one for professionals, were organised as part of the campaign “Better Be Informed than Exploited” on the occasion of the European Anti-Trafficking Day. The initiative was organised by the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Ministry of Education and Science, Directorate “Prevention” of the Varna Municipality and the Regional Inspectorate of Education.

The topic of the training on October 20 was “Risky behaviour in Internet and human trafficking.” Thirty-nine volunteers from the City Prevention Club and from prevention clubs from various schools learnt about the growing importance of Internet for the human trafficking and then participated in the general discussion. A special handbook on this topic was presented and distributed. The training participants can use the handbook to instruct their peers or younger pupils. The handbook was developed by the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre as part of the joint project with the Directorate “Prevention” of the Varna Municipality.

Team of the Safer Internet Centre conducted training for professionals on October 21. Participants included members of the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, and of the Municipal and Local Commissions for Combating Juvenile Delinquency. Risky conduct of children and young people in Internet was presented and discussed on the training, as well as the ways to protect them from becoming victims of human trafficking.
