Appointment of the First Academic Ombudsman at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski
 
At the beginning of November 2004 the administration of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski approved the pilot introduction of the position of academic ombudsman at the university during the period: 1 November, 2004 – 28 February, 2005. The first appointment was taken by prof. Dobrina Temniskova. Prof. Temniskova holds a Ph.D. in Biology. Till 2002 she presided the Botany Faculty at Sofia Unviersity and till 2003 she was a member of the Academic Council of Sofia University. Prof. Temniskova is a member of a number of international and domestic scientific councils and organizations.

The position of the academic ombudsman at the Sofia University was established under the project Anticorruption Education and Civic Action against Corruption in the Sofia University implemented by Social Dialogue Foundation. The project is carried out within the framework of the Civil Society Against Corruption Program of Coalition 2000 and is funded by the US Agency for International Development. During the summer of 2004 the project team developed and proposed for an approval a statute for the activities of the academic ombudsman. Other project activities included:

• Introduction of anticorruption education courses for pedagogical students in their second and third year of study at Sofia university;
• Sociological survey among students and university professors evaluating the level of corruption at Sofia University;
• Developing a project web site.

Students, professors and administration at Sofia University can approach the newly elected academic ombudsman or ask for an appointment at the following email: temn@biofac.uni-sofia.bg. The working office of prof. Temniskova will be based at the Faculty of Biology of Sofia University, #8 Dragan Tsankov Blvd, 1164 Sofia.

The announced office hours of the academic ombudsman are weekly in the following working days: Mondays (11:00 to 13:00) and Thrusdays (14:00 to 16:00), office 351.
