Igor Pálka is the Head of Allen & Overy Bratislava, s.r.o. He graduated from the Comenius University in Bratislava in 1988 and is an advocate. He joined Allen & Overy in 1999 after having practised since 1994 as a partner in one of the leading local Slovak law firms. Igor specialises in banking, capital markets, corporate finance and M&A work. He has advised on many of the landmark and debut international transactions in the Slovak Republic including privatisations, project finance, bond and equity issues. He has also advised on the drafting of some of the key laws in Slovakia in relation to bankruptcy and security.
Gordon W. Johnson, Lead Counsel, World Bank. Mr. Johnson, a member of the World Bank’s Legal Department (Finance, Private Sector and Infrastructure Group), is the Bank’s primary legal specialist on insolvency and creditor rights issues globally. He has advised extensively in emerging markets throughout the world in approximately 40 countries on matters of legal, judicial and regulatory reform related to insolvency systems (banking and corporate), workouts and restructurings, asset management vehicles, credit risk management, asset based lending and collateral, creditor rights and enforcement systems, privatization and related commercial matters. He routinely provides legal support to emergency recovery teams in crisis situations, such as Argentina and Turkey, playing a central role in the design of corporate workout strategies. Mr. Johnson spearheaded the Bank’s Insolvency Initiative in collaboration with international partners to develop the Principles and Guidelines for Effective Insolvency and Creditor Rights Systems, now used as a benchmark for assessing the effectiveness of country systems worldwide.
