Description

Police corruption manifests itself in a variety of ways, ranging from petty bribes and bureaucratic corruption, to leaking of information to criminals, undermining criminal investigations that maintain a ‘state capture’ and other forms of political corruption. All of these issues require preventive and proactive anti-corruption interventions. Since 2004 CSD has worked together with the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, the European Union, and leading academic institutions on assessing the risks of police corruption and designing anti-corruption measures. CSD has helped policy makers at the Bulgarian Ministry of Interior, the European Commission, and FRONTEX in examining the causes and risks related to police corruption. In addition, CSD has worked directly with internal affairs police departments in Bulgaria and Romania to develop analytical products that increase their operational capacity.
