Public discussion: The British Policies and Approach to Assets Recovery
On July 8, 2004 the Center for the Study of Democracy and Coalition 2000 hosted a public discussion The British Policies and Approach to Assets Recovery. The discussion presented the British experience in forfeiture of assets in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime Act from 2002. Assets forfeiture: a mechanism for combating corruption and organized crime
A discussion on the assets forfeiture as a mechanism for combating corruption and organized crime with the participation of Mr. Heiner Boxleitner, Chief Criminal Commissioner of Bavaria, was held on June 3, 2004, at the Center for the Study of Democracy. The event was organized by Coalition 2000 as part of its continuing efforts in support of the introduction of assets seizure mechanisms in Bulgaria, in particular through the adoption of a Law on Forfeiture of Criminal Assets. more »

Assets Seizure in Europe: Legislative and Operational Instrument to Counter Corruption and Organized Crime
On March 2, 2004 Coalition 2000 organized a round table on the legislative and operational aspects of assets seizure. The discussion took place soon after the Bulgarian Draft Law on Forfeiture to the State of Any Property Acquired by Criminal Activity, developed by the Ministry of Interior, was adopted by the Government for submission to the Parliament. A round table discussion on the Draft Law on Forfeiture to the State of Any Property Acquired by Criminal Activity was held at the Center for the Study of Democracy on October 1, 2002. Ms. Karen Kramer, Resident Legal Advisor at the Embassy of the USA, provided opening remarks followed by a presentation by Ms. Susan Smith, Senior Trial Attorney at the Asset Forfeiture and Money Laundering Section in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.more »
